Initial ABC News reporting indicates that a young indigenous Australian was run down while riding a stolen motorcycle:

About 200 protesters gathered outside the courthouse this morning ahead of the expected appearance of a 55-year-old man, who has been charged with manslaughter over the death of 14-year-old Elijah Doughty.

The boy was riding a stolen motorcycle on Monday before a crash involving the bike and the man’s utility.

Police said the stolen motorbike was linked to the charged man.

The most recent ABC News report:

Charges against a 55-year-old man accused of unlawfully killing a teenager whose death sparked a riot in Kalgoorlie yesterday could be upgraded, West Australian police say.

The man, whose identity has been suppressed, was alleged to have fatally injured 14-year-old Elijah Doughty in a crash between a ute and a motorcycle two days ago.

Both alleged crimes are relevant but only one rates a mention.
