Having against all odds managed to survive until retirement age I celebrated by yesterday taking delivery of a BMW s1000R, the detuned “naked” version of the awesome s1000RR. The bike is fantastic, and could well be the greatest production motorcycle to date.
With 160 horsepower and a redline of 11,000 rpm I expected the bike would be a bit finicky in stop and go traffic; not so. The bike’s abundant torque gives it tremendous pulling power from idle; its slenderness ideally suited to traffic filtering.
The machine’s open road performance is phenomenal: abundant torque negates the need for frequent downshifts; blistering acceleration at all times; powerful braking; and superb ride and cornering.
Yep, it’s one fantastic motorcycle.
