Sydneysiders have endured their hottest summer since records began, with official data revealing records across the city were smashed during the 2016-17 season.
- Mean maximum temperatures were generally 0.5 °C to 1.5 °C below seasonal averages; Perth Metro’s mean maximum of 29.8 °C for summer was the mildest for 11 years, since summer 2005-06
- Persistent rain and fresh southerly winds led to a cool to cold day across Perth on 9 February with daily maxima in the 13-18 °C range; several sites had their lowest daily maximum temperature in summer on record
- Perth Metro recorded a daily maximum of 17.4 °C on 9 February, which was its second lowest maximum temperature in summer since daily temperature records commenced in 1897, only behind 14.9 °C on 17 December 1952
- Mean minimum temperatures were 0.5-1.0 °C below seasonal averages; Perth Metro’s mean minimum of 16.7 °C was the lowest for 11 years, since summer 2005-06
