A male looks to have paid the ultimate price while trying to rescue a female companion:
A man who dived into large swell to save his friend is still missing near Denmark in Western Australia’s south.
The 31-year-old leapt into the ocean on a boogie board to rescue his 21-year-old companion who had been swept off rocks while she was posing for a photograph on Saturday afternoon.
The pair were visiting the Great Southern for the weekend when the accident occurred.
They were washed about two kilometres along the coast before the current took them closer to shore, where they became separated, with the woman managing to clamber to safety.
The man did not make it ashore.
It’s just as well; had he made it ashore he probably would have raped her.
