Today, on my way to the shops to buy some red meat – the likely cause of a deadly cardio-vascular event should I not be killed in a more powerful vehicle vs motorcycle prang – I observed, for the second week in a row, a young couple out bicycling.
All well and good except that the young couple, with a young child seated in a child-carrier behind the female, was riding on an a narrow, 80 kph semi-rural road. Of course they are entitled to use a highly-travelled, high-speed road but common sense should inform them they’re taking a huge risk, not only for themselves but for their child.
They could have used a much safer but somewhat longer alternate, 60 kph route connecting into the same thoroughfare with a segregated bike lane but chose instead to ride at slow speed in much faster traffic.
It’s no wonder bicyclists get smashed.
